DAVID McKELVIE
David began his career as a concreter in the construction industry and has always valued and utilised the lessons he learnt in those early years, primarily an intimate understanding of and respect for the values and concerns of the people he worked with.
David’s passion for Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) was formed in those early years, often witnessing serious workplace incidents and always wondering why this seemed so acceptable and just part of the job!
David operated his own concrete contracting business and has experienced over ten years in quarry and concrete plant operational management prior to taking on the never ending challenge of a career in Workplace Health and Safety Leadership in 1993.
David has learnt through many years of WHS Leadership that sustainable and continual improvement in WHS performance is only achieved through intentional and collaborative behaviour at all levels from the floor to the board room.
This behaviour is based on respect of others, understanding their roles and responsibilities, realising the potential risk people are exposed to and requires an organizational culture that thrives on accountability and results.
Having worked as a concreter, an operations manager and an executive gives David a unique insight to the workings that are required to bring people together, so as to achieve and share an equitable and successful WHS journey.
Prior to the establishment of DMcK Management Pty Ltd, David held the position of National Health and Safety Manager of Holcim (Australia) Pty Ltd reporting to the CEO and the Board Safety, Health and Environment Compliance Committee. David has held senior positions in OHS since 1993 working both in Australia and internationally.
